Job summary

Barenburg Eye Associates in Dundalk, MD is seeking a motivated Ophthalmic Technician to assist physicians with comprehensive eye examinations and diagnostic testing. You will collect patient histories, perform preliminary testing, and help ensure patients feel informed and comfortable throughout their visit.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in ophthalmology, optometry, healthcare, or clinical settings preferred.
• Ophthalmic Technician certification or COA/COT certification is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and prepare patients for ophthalmic examinations in a friendly manner.
• Obtain and document medical, ocular, and medication histories.
• Perform preliminary eye testing and diagnostic procedures as directed.
• Measure visual acuity, pupils, and extraocular movements.
• Support testing such as auto-refraction, tonometry, OCT, visual fields, and fundus imaging.
• Prepare examination rooms and assist physicians during exams.
• Document examination findings in the electronic medical record.
• Explain testing procedures to patients and answer questions within scope.
• Maintain clinical area cleanliness and stock supplies.
• Follow infection control, safety, HIPAA, and practice policies.
