Responsibilities

• Acts as clinical assistant to Optometrist.
• Performs complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty tests (refraction, visual field test, color testing and contact lens evaluation).
• Interviews patient to obtain and record medical history in Athena electronic health record.
• Prepares patients for examination by dilating pupils, checking visual acuity, obtaining intraocular pressure and blood pressure.
• Maintains safe, secure, and health work environment by following standards and legal regulations.

Job description

The Ophthalmic Technician performs a range of duties which includes preparing the patient to see the Optometrist (preliminary exam, medical history & testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting during minor procedures.

Essential Functions

• Acts as clinical assistant to Optometrist.
• Performs complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty tests (refraction, visual field test, color testing and contact lens evaluation etc.)
• Interviews patient to obtain and record medical history within the Athena electronic health record.
• Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating pupils, identifying changes in visual acuity, obtaining extraocular pressure, and obtaining blood pressure and communicates results to Optometrist.
• Maintains a safe, secure, and health work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures along with complying with legal regulations.
• Set up and prep for minor procedures, maintain stock of materials for exam rooms and procedures, follows industry and clinic standards for sterilization of instruments.
• Is familiar with standard concepts, practices, equipment and procedures within the field
