Job summary

North Star Vision in Springfield, VT seeks an Ophthalmic Technician to assist the Optometrist, perform preliminary exams and medical history, and prepare examination rooms. You will support minor procedures and maintain sterile instruments while using the Athena EHR system.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, BLS, strong computer and customer service skills, and ideally one year of ophthalmic experience to thrive in a fast-paced clinic.

Qualifications

Ophthalmic Technician (North Star Vision)

About this position

The Ophthalmic Technician performs a range of duties which includes preparing the patient to see the Optometrist (preliminary exam, medical history & testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting during minor procedures.

Essential Functions:

• Acts as clinical assistant to Optometrist.
• Performs complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty tests (refraction, visual field test, color testing and contact lens evaluation etc.)
• Interviews patient to obtain and record medical history within the Athena electronic health record.
• Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating pupils, identifying changes in visual acuity, obtaining extraocular pressure, and obtaining blood pressure and communicates results to Optometrist.
• Maintains a safe, secure, and health work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures along with complying with legal regulations.
• Set up and prep for minor procedures, maintain stock of materials for exam rooms and procedures, follows industry and clinic standards for sterilization of instruments.
• Is familiar with standard concepts, practices, equipment and procedures within the field

Salary Information

$20 - $25Hourly Wage

Requirements
