Responsibilities
- Obtain and document patient history
- Determine visual acuity
- Perform automated and manual refraction for diagnostic purposes
- Retinoscopy and refinement for prescribing purposes
- Advanced lensometry
- Logarithmic pupillary assessment
- Static and kinetic visual field testing
- Perform PAM, BAT, and advanced ocular motility assessment
- Manual keratometry
- Osmolarity testing
- Administer eye drops, ointments, and irrigating solutions as ordered by the physician
- Enter data into EMR and provide patient services
- Measure intraocular pressure (tonometry)
- Pre‑operative preparation of patient
- Maintain and repair equipment and instruments
- Perform ocular imaging including OCT, topography, and fundus photography
- Prepare surgical instruments and equipment
- Use aseptic technique
- Assist in the operating room for minor and refractive surgeries
- Prepare and label microscope slides and culture media obtained by the physician
- Provide amblyopia treatment including patching, drops, and prism therapy
- Calculate intraocular lens power
- Post‑operative education
- Escalate and triage urgent patient needs or care
- Patient education, advanced refracting skills including over‑refraction of contact lenses and contact lens fit/adjustment, advanced slit lamp technique
- Perform A‑scan diagnostic measurements
- Conduct biometry measurements
Qualifications
- 7+ years of ophthalmic technician experience preferred
- Work with COT required / COMT preferred
- Dependable transportation to travel to other offices as required
- Flexible with traveling to various locations
- Strong attention to detail
- Maintain confidentiality
- Seek instruction when not knowledgeable
- Recognize inconsistencies
