Job summary

EyeSouth Partners is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to support Georgia Center for Sight. You will assist ophthalmologists and optometrists by gathering data on ocular health and performing tests, documenting information for patient records in a fast-paced clinic.

The role involves chart reviews, administering medications under physician direction, EMR data entry, and helping with patient education while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a fast-paced clinical environment is preferred.
  • Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform testing ordered by the doctor based on exam type and history.
  • Enter data into EMR and act as a medical scribe when needed.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic medications as directed.
  • Maintain clean and orderly exam rooms and assist with patient education.

Georgia Center for Sight offers a full spectrum of vision care while providing the highest quality patient care. We offer eye care for the entire family, including exams and treatment for Dry Eye Relief, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, and Diabetes. We also offer Refractive Cataract and Standard Cataract surgery at our in-house ambulatory surgery center. In addition, we also offer other refractive correction procedures including LASIK and PRK.

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
  • Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
  • Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
  • Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

  • Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
  • Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
  • Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
  • Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
  • Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
