Houston Retina Associates, affiliated with EyeSouth Partners, is seeking an ophthalmic technician to support physicians in ocular health testing, patient history taking, and medication administration.

The role emphasizes accurate charting, testing following doctor orders, and maintaining clean exam rooms in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent years related experience preferred.
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
• Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Performs testing ordered by doctor and determined by exam type/history.
• Takes ocular and systemic history and records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under physician direction.
• Assists with in-office procedures and ensures informed consent.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms.
• Complies with practice procedures and state/federal regulations.
• Reports inventory and supply needs to leadership.
• Contributes to team effort with additional tasks as needed.

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Essential Duties

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Performs testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Assists with simple in‑office procedures, ensuring proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Reports inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering.
• Contributes to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintains a positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self‑motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred.
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
