Job summary

Georgia Retina, a leading retina-only practice in the Southeast, seeks an ophthalmic technician to assist physicians, gather ocular data, and perform clinical tests. You will document history, acuity, and test results in the EMR and support patient education during visits.

Newnan office opens Fall 2026; until then, staff will train at Peachtree City. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401k with match, HSA/FSA, telemedicine and generous PTO.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; related experience preferred.
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
• Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Newnan office opening Fall 2026; all Newnan staff will train at Peachtree City until the Newnan office opens.

Responsibilities

• Review patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by exam type.
• Act as medical scribe and enter data into EMR.
• Take ocular and systemic history and record visual acuity.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under physician direction.
• Assist with simple in-office procedures and ensure informed consent.
• Educate patients and maintain exam room cleanliness.
• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership; participate in daily huddles.
• Report potential errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.

Job description

With over 200 years of combined experience, Georgia Retina’s board-certified ophthalmologists offer world-class expertise and a personalized approach to patient care in 13 Metro Atlanta area locations.

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Essential -duties

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
• Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
• Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
• Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism

• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Please note the Newnan office is opening in Fall 2026- All Newnan staff will report and train out of Peachtree City until the Newnan office opens.**
