Job summary

SightMD is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to support physicians across multiple clinics. You will perform pre-exam testing, administer eye medications, assist during minor surgeries and laser procedures, and help with administrative workflows to ensure smooth patient care.

You will also manage instrument sterilization, inventory, and patient education while upholding HIPAA and safety standards in a fast-paced ophthalmic setting.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.
• COA certification required or enrolled within 1 year and completed within 2 years of hire.
• Strong customer service skills with a professional demeanor.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
• Problem-solving with attention to detail.
• Comfortable engaging in face-to-face interactions with patients and staff.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Greet and interact with patients and families with care and respect.
• Document chief complaints and medical history accurately during intake.
• Coordinate prior authorizations for medications as required.
• Perform pre-exam testing (visual acuity, tonometry, dilation, etc.).
• Conduct advanced diagnostic tests (OCT, fundus imaging, biometry, visual fields).
• Assist with in-office surgical procedures and laser treatments.
• Complete prescription refill requests with proper documentation.
• Track and communicate lab results to physicians and patients.
• Educate patients on medications and pre-/post-operative care.
• Assist with contact lens fittings and patient instruction.
• Maintain ophthalmic supplies and equipment.
• Adhere to HIPAA and clinic safety protocols.
