Job summary

Eye Associates of New Mexico is seeking a Clinical Referral Coordinator I to join our Referral Services team. This role blends ophthalmic knowledge with patient communication and care coordination to ensure timely referrals and appointments.

The position may be remote and/or in-office, offering exposure to subspecialties and collaboration with physicians and staff. Qualified candidates will have COA or higher with 2+ years of clinical experience, or CCOA with 2+ years of referral experience,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• COA or higher with 2+ years clinical experience; or CCOA with 2+ years referral experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
• Critical thinking, problem solving and clinical decision making.
• Ability to work with physicians and clinical teams, internally and externally.
• Willingness to travel to Eye Associates locations or events as needed.
• Availability for occasional before/after-hours meetings and events.

Responsibilities

• Review and process incoming referrals and medical documentation.
• Coordinate appointments with patients and referring providers.
• Determine scheduling timeframes and subspecialty placement.
• Screen urgent referrals to support timely scheduling.
• Communicate with external referral sources about status.
• Maintain referral tracking in systems.
• Coordinate referrals between EANM providers and external sources.
• Notify staff of appointments and required information.
• Communicate with patients, physicians and staff by phone and email.
• Coordinate transfer of consults and patient-care calls to physicians.
• Review records from co-managing providers; assist with questions.
• Maintain communication about medications and diagnoses as needed.
• Assist with scanning and indexing patient records.
• Work with Patient Accounting on insurance eligibility.
• Document ocular complaints when needed.
• Support same-day and expedited scheduling.
