Job summary

UPMC Vision Institute–St. Margaret in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical support in a busy ophthalmology practice.

You will room patients, obtain histories and vital signs, prepare exam rooms, schedule, and document information in the EMR while assisting providers with clinical tasks. The position is full-time, Monday–Friday with daylight shifts, and requires travel to other UPMC Vision Institute locations about 20% of the time.

Qualifications

• Rooming patients and obtaining histories and vital signs.
• Maintaining HIPAA compliance and accurate charting.
• Assisting with clinical procedures and front-office tasks.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient records per HIPAA and regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, referrals, schedule appointments, verify insurance.
• Prepare and organize charts, restock rooms, maintain infection control.
• Manage patient flow, accompany patients to exam rooms, assist with transfers.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic labs; document results in EMR.
• Administer injectable medications and vaccines under supervision.
• Travel to other UPMC Vision Institute locations as needed.
