Job summary

UPMC Vision Institute - St. Margaret in Pittsburgh seeks an Ophthalmic Technician to support ophthalmologists and clinical staff.

You will assist with patient examinations, perform ophthalmic testing and diagnostic procedures, document information, and deliver patient-centered care in a fast-paced specialty practice at 100 Delafield Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215. Applicants will be placed on the Ophthalmic Technician/Imaging Career Ladder based on experience and education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior ophthalmic experience preferred.
• Completion of AAO Home Study Course preferred.
• CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• History taking including ocular, medical, medication, social and family history.
• Perform visual acuity assessments with/without correction and various tests.
• Conduct tonometry and refractometry; assist with dilation and contact lenses.
• Maintain inventory, restock exam rooms, sterilize instruments, clean patient areas.
• Travel to other clinical sites as needed.

Join the UPMC Vision Institute - St. Margaret as an Ophthalmic Technician and become part of a dedicated team providing exceptional eye care services to patients throughout the Pittsburgh region. In this role, you will work closely with ophthalmologists and clinical staff to support patient examinations, perform ophthalmic testing and diagnostic procedures, document patient information, and deliver outstanding patient-centered care in a fast-paced specialty practice. This position is based at UPMC Vision Institute - St. Margaret, 100 Delafield Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215 and offers full-time daylight hours with staggered shifts of 7:00 AM-3:30 PM, 7:30 AM-4:00 PM, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, or until the last patient. Responsibilities:

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family. Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity Lensometry: automated and manual Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate. Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
• Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each. Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test Angle assessment & dilation of pupils. Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions. Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day. Travel to other clinical sites.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
• Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.
• Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Valid CPR certification

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Act 34
