Job summary

Duke Eye Center Procedural Clinic in Durham, NC seeks an Ophthalmic Technician to support Duke Eye Center providers by preparing patients for intraocular injections, performing high level disinfection, and stocking supplies.

Responsibilities include assisting during examinations and procedures, preparing meds, documenting care, and guiding patients and families on post-procedure care. Certification as ophthalmic technician (COT/COA/COMT) and BLS CPR are required.

Qualifications

  • Requires completion of Ophthalmic Technician training.
  • Certification as ophthalmic technician (COT/COA/COMT) preferred.
  • BLS CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preliminary screening examinations and ocular motility tests.
  • Assist physicians and nursing staff during examinations and procedures.
  • Handle instrument processing, high-level disinfection, and sterilization of ophthalmic instruments.
  • Prepare patients for intraocular injections and compounds medications as needed.
  • Assist with documentation and provide post-procedure care instructions to patients and families.
  • Direct patient flow and obtain medical/personal data for charts.
  • Sterilize and set up instruments for ophthalmic procedures and laser treatments.
