Job summary

Prism Vision Group is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant for an on-site role at the Retina Care Center in Baltimore, MD. The position involves performing ocular and systemic history taking, recording visual acuity, and conducting tests such as OCT and visual fields to support physician diagnoses.

Responsibilities include scribing, administering medications, ensuring informed consent, patient education, and maintaining exam room cleanliness. Occasional travel to other locations may be required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• OA1 Experience: 0–2 years ophthalmic assistant experience.
• OAII Experience: 2+ years ophthalmic assistant experience.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and records visual acuity.
• Performs testing for exams (OCT, visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry).
• Performs lensometry, automated refractometry and slit lamp exams with tonometry and angle assessment.
• Performs advanced ophthalmic procedures.
• Acts as scribe entering data into EMR or paper charts.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
• Assists with adherence to procedures and informed consent.
• Assists with patient education.
• Oversees patient flow throughout the day.
• Maintains cleanliness and order in exam rooms.
• Complies with practice procedures and regulations; reports errors as needed.
• Maintains a positive attitude and professionalism.
