Job summary

Vance Thompson Vision in West Fargo, ND, seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant to join our patient-centered team. You will perform workups, tests, and assist clinicians with routine exams in a fast-paced, compassionate environment.

Ideal candidates are highly organized, with a high school diploma, AAO home study preferred, and prior patient care experience. We value clear communication, teamwork, and a commitment to exceptional patient experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • AAO home study preferred.
  • Previous patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performing patient workups and preliminary tests including visual acuity, patient history, lensometry and other tests in accordance with protocol.
  • Performing various diagnostic tests including keratometry, topography, tonometry, pachymetry and visual fields as indicated.
  • Facilitates efficient patient flow by monitoring schedules, patient records, and potential schedule conflicts; communicates with OD/MD as necessary.
  • Triaging patient phone calls by answering questions and resolving concerns to achieve patient satisfaction.
  • Ensuring opening/closing/maintenance and stocking of exam lanes and maintaining orderly work areas.
  • Sending prescriptions to patients’ pharmacies and handling prior authorization requests as needed.
  • Participating in regular team meetings and reporting team progress for effective inter-department communication.
  • Actively participating in ongoing professional self-development to enhance training and skills.
