Job summary

Vance Thompson Vision is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to join our Omaha team and support high‑quality patient care. You will perform patient workups and preliminary tests (visual acuity, history, lensometry, and other tests) and assist with keratometry, topography, tonometry, pachymetry and visual fields as directed.

You will help manage patient flow, triage calls, and coordinate with physicians to ensure outstanding service.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AAO home study preferred.
  • Previous patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performing patient workups and preliminary tests including visual acuity, patient history, lensometry and other tests in accordance with protocol.
  • Performing diagnostic tests such as keratometry, topography, tonometry, pachymetry and visual fields as indicated.
  • Facilitating efficient patient flow by monitoring schedules and medical records; communicating with OD/MD as necessary.
  • Triaging patient phone calls by answering questions and resolving concerns to achieve patient satisfaction.
  • Ensuring opening, closing, maintenance and stocking of exam lanes and maintaining orderly work areas.
  • Sending prescriptions to patients’ pharmacies and handling prior authorization requests as needed.
  • Participating in regular team meetings and reporting progress to ensure effective team communication.
  • Engaging in ongoing self-development to enhance training and skills.

You Have
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience and/or training with completion of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) home study preferred.
  • Previous patient care experience preferred.
