Job summary

Vance Thompson Vision in Kansas City is expanding and seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support patient workups, perform tests, and help manage exam flow in a fast-paced clinic.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, AAO home study preferred, and prior patient care experience; strong organizational and communication skills are essential to deliver excellent patient care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • AAO home study preferred.
  • Previous patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient workups and tests: visual acuity, patient history, lensometry per protocol.
  • Conduct diagnostics: keratometry, topography, tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields as indicated.
  • Manage patient flow: monitor schedules and records, resolve conflicts with OD/MD.
  • Triage patient calls, answer questions, and resolve concerns for satisfaction.
  • Open/close exam lanes; maintain orderly work areas.
  • Send prescriptions to pharmacies; handle prior authorizations as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings; report progress for inter-department communication.
  • Engage in ongoing self-development to enhance skills.
