Job summary

CompEyecare in Austin, TX is seeking an entry-level Ophthalmic Assistant to support ophthalmologists with eye care services and essential administrative tasks. The role emphasizes patient flow and basic eye testing, with a Monday–Friday 8AM–5PM schedule.

Responsibilities include diagnostic tests such as OCT and corneal topography, patient education on medications and pre/post-operative care, and maintaining patient confidentiality in line with HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

  • One-year experience in a customer facing position preferred.
  • Medical related experience preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Proficient in use of internet.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized eye exam testing and help streamline patient flow.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing such as Visual Aids, OCT, corneal topography.
  • Provide phone support for prescription refills as directed by the physician.
  • Educate patients on medication administration and pre/post-operative instructions.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

An Ophthalmic Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting ophthalmologists in providing eye care services to patients. They assist with both clinical and administrative tasks, contributing to the efficient operation of the practice.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday: 8AM to 5PM

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Ability to perform specialized eye exam testing while streamlining patient flow.
  • Other diagnostic testing such as: Visual Aids, OCT, Corneal topography, etc...
  • Providing phone support with request for prescription refills as authorized by the physician.
  • Educate patients regarding administration of medications and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by physician.
  • Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, such as HIPPA guidelines, to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
