Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician is a vital member of the eye care team, responsible for assisting ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions and performing various clinical and technical duties to ensure efficient delivery of eye care services.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Perform specialized eye exam testing while streamlining patient flow.
  • Conduct additional diagnostic testing such as visual fields, OCT, corneal topography, and venipuncture.
  • Assist with inventory of ophthalmic supplies, including pharmaceuticals and instruments on a regular basis.
  • Provide phone support for prescription refill requests as authorized by the physician.
  • Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA guidelines, to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
Experience Requirements
  • One year experience as an ophthalmic technician required.
  • One year experience in a customer-facing position preferred.
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification preferred.
Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to stay focused.
