Job summary

Eddie Kane Steel Products is seeking a full-time Material Handler to move material through our North Carolina plants, ensuring timely, safe, and accurate processing of orders. The role requires basic mechanical aptitude, ability to lift up to 75 pounds, and the use of hand and power tools as needed.

The ideal candidate will read and interpret customer orders, coordinate with foremen, and maintain clear production documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Prior experience helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Move raw material, work in process, and finished goods between work centers.
  • Operate hand and power tools to clean and repair materials.
  • Operate machinery for secondary operations (drilling, punching, bending, etc.).
  • Move finished material onto skids for packaging.
  • Read, interpret, and understand customer orders; communicate with foreman.
  • Maintain production documentation and ensure quality standards.

General Description

Responsible for moving material as required to complete customer orders in an efficient and safe manner by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Move raw material, work in process, and finished goods into and between work centers.
  • Operate hand and power tools to clean finished materials and to complete minor repairs.
  • Operate other machinery to complete secondary operations such as drilling, punching, bending, grinding, torch cutting, shearing, flattening, etc.
  • Move finished material onto skids for final packaging.
  • Plasma Cutting /Welding experience desired
  • Electrical installation and maintenance experience desired.
  • Maintain pace with equipment operators to ensure material flows smoothly into and out of individual work centers and prevent back up or delays.
  • Use basic measuring tools to maintain quality standards on each order.
  • Maintain neat and accurate written production documentation as required.
  • Read, interpret, and understand the job requirements of each customer order. Communicate with foreman to ensure a complete understanding of all information.
  • Communicate all pertinent job related information to foreman on a daily basis.
  • Report any problems or quality concerns to supervisor immediately.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

As a steel service center and distributor of hot-rolled prime and non-prime steel plate, Eddie Kane Steel sells on- and off-gauge, pattern and non-pattern plate sizes, ranging in thickness from 3/16 to 8 inches. Eddie Kane Steel maintains a diverse inventory of prime and non-prime steel plate and, for its strategic customer partners, stock inventory of custom-made parts. Value-added products include OEM parts, counterweights, and steel burn outs for diverse industries, including the waste industry, general building construction, transportation, agricultural and industrial equipment, drilling, theatrical stage, and elevator industries.
Eddie Kane Steel’s flagship processing facility in Ohio (180,000 square-foot warehouse and production plant) has a crane capacity up to 100 tons and has full rail access. The North Carolina and California facilities are also fully served by rail.
Eddie Kane Steel’s processing capabilities include high-definition plasma and oxy-fuel flame cutting, shearing, bending, drilling, punching, welding, beveling, Blanchard grinding, stress relieving, and light machining. With two plasma burning machines (including high-definition plasma machines), plate thicknesses up to 14 inches can be cut. Our oxy-fuel cutting capabilities include several multi-torch multi-head machines with several hundred feet of cutting surface. Through close partnerships with vendors offering proven high-quality workmanship, we provide services such as painting and coating, stamping, embossing, slitting, sawing, turning, annealing, leveling, and pressing.
