Job summary

Oregon Steel Mills LLC in Oregon is seeking a Heat Treat Material Handler to safely process steel plate in a heavy industrial setting on 12-hour rotating shifts. The role requires following safety rules, performing manual tasks, and using cranes and burners as needed.

Qualifications

• Follow all safety rules and standard operating procedures.
• Ability to work 12‑hour rotating shifts and heavy manual tasks.
• Accurate data entry and attention to detail.
• Experience with overhead cranes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate remotely controlled overhead cranes to stack and unstack steel plate.
• Load and unload steel plate on conveyor systems.
• Load and unload steel plate onto trucks and rail cars.
• Use burning equipment and grinders to cut and prepare plate samples.
• Tag and mark steel plate.
• Enter data into computer systems.
• Operate forklift.
• Perform additional responsibilities as directed by the front-line supervisor.

The starting wage for this role is $25.00/hour with monthly incentive bonus opportunities. The Heat Treat Material Handler is responsible for safely handling and processing steel plate in a heavy industrial environment. This role requires following all safety rules, completing work tasks according to standard operating procedures, and performing physical labor throughout 12‑hour rotating shifts.

Responsibilities

• Use remotely controlled overhead cranes to stack and unstack steel plate
• Load and unload steel plate on conveyor systems
• Load and unload steel plate onto trucks and rail cars
• Use burning equipment and hand grinders to cut and prepare plate samples for testing
• Tag and mark steel plate
• Enter data into computer systems
• Operate forklift
• Perform additional responsibilities as directed by the front-line supervisor

Requirements

• Ability to work in environments subject to fluctuations in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust, and noise
• Ability to accurately enter data into computers without transposing figures
• Ability to read and follow procedures and technical manuals
• Ability to think ahead and plan work in a fast‑paced setting
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
• Good math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, accurate number identification)
• Ability to work 12‑hour rotating shifts
• Ability to quickly coordinate hand motions with overhead crane operation
• Comfortable working in high places
• Successful completion of an ergonomic test

Preferred

• Experience operating a remote‑controlled crane in a fast‑paced environment
• 2–5 years industrial experience
• Experience in a position requiring planning out work
