Job Summary:

The Operations Supervisor – 2 nd Shift, supervises the daily activities of Fleet and Facilities, Flex & Move, Max & Dispatch/Scheduler, and reports to the Operations Supervisor - Administration. This position is assigned a particular shift and has an expected schedule of Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 7:00pm, but may be required to work alternate shifts and/or days as required. Weekends and holidays required. This position supports the entire TACC service area.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises staff to include: assisting with conducting performance evaluations; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; and making disciplinary decisions and recommendations on an as needed basis; prioritizing and assigning employee work.
  • Ensures that TACC standards of safety, courtesy and reliability are met by daily monitoring operations for adherence to TACC policies, rules, regulations and schedules. Confers with employees regarding proper safety procedures, defensive driving techniques, customer relation’s issues, report preparation and new or revised policies, procedures and schedules; counsels an takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Provides field and dispatch supervision as required/needed; furnishes advice, assistance, and direction with regard to situations that arise as a result of field operations; monitors and evaluates operator field activities and skill levels.
  • Monitors schedules, routes and equipment through inspection; investigates and reports on schedule and route deficiencies and problems; recommends changes as necessary.
  • Provides information to the public regarding TACC services; responds to inquiries and complaints regarding services; assures that appropriate information is provided and problems are resolved.
  • Executes contingency plans and adapts service for unexpected weather and route conditions, equipment failure, employee illness and similar occurrences.
  • Periodically monitors and reviews calls and cameras to observe employee’s demeanor, technical accuracy, and conformity to TACC policies.
  • Takes charge of safety events or other emergency scenes, ensuring safety and security of operators, customers and TACC equipment; operates buses or vans when necessary, reroutes buses or vans and adjusts headways in response to field conditions; conducts on-the-scene investigation and documentation.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level, as needed.

Physical Requirements:

Vision & Hearing

  • Normal or corrected vision sufficient for prolonged close work at a computer screen (reading spreadsheets, mapping software, timetables)
  • Ability to read fine-print schedules, maps, and data tables accurately
  • Hearing sufficient for phone calls, radio traffic (if monitoring operations), and meetings

Physical Demands

  • Mix of sedentary and mobile work where you may be at a desk for a moment, then out driving and then out walking in mixed weather conditions.
  • Repetitive use of hands/wrists for typing and mouse use
  • Light lifting may be required (< 20 lbs) with occasional exertions of up to 50-75 pounds (assisting with wheelchairs)

Cognitive/Mental Demands

  • Sustained concentration for detailed, data-heavy work
  • Ability to manage multiple constraints simultaneously
  • Comfort with recurring deadline pressure

Working Conditions:

  • Mix of indoor and outdoor work, both sedentary and mobile.
  • Shift is 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, may be required to cover for other supervisor shifts from 4:00 am to Midnight

Work Pace & Pressure

  • May be called upon during service emergencies to make rapid schedule adjustments — this can mean irregular hours during disruptions
  • Collaborative work with Dispatchers, Schedulers, Operations Supervisors and Managers

Tools & Technology

  • Heavy use of specialized scheduling software and GIS mapping tools
  • Regular use of spreadsheets and databases

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One to Three years’ experience in public transportation
  • One year in a supervisory capacity in public transportation or a directly related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 to 2 years in a public transportation position as a driver, dispatcher, mechanic or similar role.
  • Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) Certificate, within 3 years of hire.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements within 180 days of hire.
  • Possession of a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Strong computer skills with proven competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
