Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading in Pontiac, MI is seeking a Supervisor to oversee the scale house and metal processing areas. You will ensure accurate material transactions, safe operations, and regulatory compliance while leading a team of scale house and shop personnel.

The role emphasizes productivity, customer service, and operational excellence, with responsibilities for weighing, documentation, and coordinating with yard staff and customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three (3) years of experience in scrap recycling, metal processing, manufacturing, logistics, or a related industrial environment.
• One (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with computer systems, scale software, and Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work in an outdoor industrial environment and perform occasional physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily scale house and metal shop operations.
• Lead, train, schedule, and support employees while maintaining accountability and performance standards.
• Ensure accurate weighing, documentation, and processing of inbound and outbound materials.
• Coordinate activities between scale operators, yard personnel, equipment operators, and customers.
• Monitor scrap receiving, sorting, grading, and shipment activities to maximize efficiency.
• Enforce company safety policies and ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
• Resolve operational and customer service issues related to material transactions and processing.
• Maintain accurate records, inventory controls, and operational reports.
• Conduct workplace inspections and support equipment maintenance efforts.
• Promote a safe, organized, and productive work environment.
• Assist management with process improvements and achieving operational goals.
