Covia in Chardon, OH is seeking an Operations Manager to direct production, shipping and maintenance, driving safe, efficient operations while meeting production goals at the lowest possible cost. You will lead safety, quality, and continuous-improvement efforts across the site.

The role requires a engineering or technical degree, 5 years in heavy industry, and 2 years of frontline supervisory experience. Strong leadership, negotiation and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical major strongly preferred.
• 5 years of related heavy industry experience required.
• 2 years of front-line supervisory experience required.
• Management experience in leading and developing teams to deliver results.
• Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct safe mining, processing, and shipping activities with records of stripping, pit development, mining, pumping, processing, shipments, maintenance and plant security.
• Apply continuous-improvement methods to improve quality, reduce waste, lower costs, and boost productivity.
• Lead subordinates to achieve optimum output aligned with production and quality goals.
• Recommend changes in standards, methods, equipment, and processes to improve performance and profitability.
• Assist Plant Manager with operations reports and variance analysis.
• Collaborate with Plant Manager for Annual Operational Excellence Meeting and OEM Review calls.
• Initiate programs to maintain or improve standards and compliance.
• Advise Plant Manager on operational risks including staff, equipment, safety, materials and transport.
• Coordinate with parties to resolve customer complaints and maintain open communications across departments.
• Oversee hiring of hourly employees and ensure safety, health and environmental regulations are followed.
