Covia in Chardon, OH is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to direct production, shipping, and maintenance to meet plans while optimizing cost, safety, and product quality. You will lead a team, implement continuous improvement, and partner with the Plant Manager for operational excellence and risk management.

The role emphasizes staff development, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical major strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of related heavy industry experience required. Mining or mineral processing experience strongly preferred.
• 2+ years of front-line supervisory experience required.
• Management experience in leading and developing teams to deliver results.
• Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct safe mining, processing, and shipping activities and maintain inspection/production records.
• Use continuous improvement to reduce waste, lower costs, and improve productivity.
• Coordinate supervision to meet output, production, and quality targets.
• Recommend changes to standards, methods, equipment, and processes for better performance.
• Assist Plant Manager in operations reports and variance comments.
• Lead and participate in annual operational excellence meetings and OEM plant reviews.
• Ensure adherence to standards and establish new standards where needed.
• Monitor problems across staff, equipment, quality, safety, materials and transport.
• Maintain open communication with subordinates and other departments; manage hiring of hourly staff.
• Ensure safety, health, and environmental regulations are followed.
• Inspect records for proper completion and detect issues; act accordingly.
• Act as Plant Manager in their absence; perform other duties as required.
