Job summary

The Lanes Group seeks an Operations Manager to join the Washington team. You will lead day-to-day operations, supervise staff, and optimise fleet and equipment use while maintaining safety and service standards. You will drive productivity, compliance and a positive work environment.

Responsibilities include staff training records, workload planning, toolbox talks, and safety audits. A strong IT capability and organisational skills are essential to manage resources effectively.

The Role

We are looking for an Operations Manager to join our team in Washington. As Operations Manager, you will oversee day‑to‑day operational activities, manage teams, vehicles, equipment and resources efficiently, safely and in line with company standards. You will provide strong leadership to operational teams, drive productivity, compliance and service delivery while maintaining a safe and positive working environment.

Responsibilities
Staff Management
  • Ensuring operational teams are completing work in a timely and safe manner.
  • Booking and keeping records of staff training.
  • Planning and monitoring staff workload & scheduling.
  • Timesheet, absence, and holiday management.
  • Depot Manager.
  • Conducting toolbox talks, inductions and stand‑down meetings as required.
Fleet & Equipment Management
  • Ensuring all company vehicles are kept and maintained to company standards.
  • Ensuring all fleet are serviced and MOTs covered as required.
  • Liasing with the transport department to ensure all procedures/policies are adhered to.
  • Calibration of tools.
  • Making sure all equipment is fit for daily use and ensuring the correct equipment is allocated.
  • Ensuring stock audits are carried out regularly.
Health & Safety
  • Ensuring all equipment is used correctly and all work is carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Conducting regular Health and Safety audits.
  • Ensuring compliance on and off site with the involvement of the H & S management team.
  • Arranging PAT testing, fire extinguisher servicing and secondary checks.

Due to the nature of the role successful applicants will be expected to participate in the on‑call rota and will require flexibility surrounding work hours.

About You
  • Previous Management/Supervisory experience.
  • Full UK Driving licence – no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Excellent IT skills with the ability to use all Microsoft programmes.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Experience in ensuring maximum productivity and optimum asset usage.
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety.
