Placements24 is seeking an experienced Operations Manager for Welkom, Free State, to lead logistics and supply chain operations for a humanitarian organization. You will oversee warehousing, transportation, inventory, and fleet management, ensuring reliable delivery of essential aid to program sites.

The role requires a strong leader with 7+ years in logistics, including 3+ in management within NGO settings, plus proficiency in ERP/WMS and MS Office.

About the Role

Our client, a renowned international humanitarian organization, requires an experienced Operations Manager to oversee logistics and supply chain operations in the Welkom region. This critical role ensures the efficient and timely delivery of essential supplies and aid to communities in need across Free State and surrounding areas. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in supply chain management, inventory control, and fleet management within challenging environments. You will lead a team responsible for warehousing, transportation, and distribution, ensuring the highest standards of operational excellence and accountability. This position demands strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize all aspects of the supply chain, including procurement, warehousing, inventory management, and transportation.
• Oversee the fleet of vehicles, ensuring maintenance, compliance, and efficient utilization.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for logistics and supply chain functions.
• Ensure accurate inventory tracking and control to minimize losses and stockouts.
• Coordinate the timely delivery of relief goods and essential supplies to program sites.
• Manage a team of logistics staff, providing training, supervision, and performance management.
• Ensure compliance with all organizational policies, donor requirements, and local regulations.
• Conduct regular risk assessments of the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies.
• Liaise with program managers and other departments to ensure seamless operational support.
• Maintain strong relationships with local suppliers, vendors, and transport providers in the Welkom area.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• A Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in logistics and supply chain management, with at least 3 years in a managerial role within the humanitarian or non-profit sector.
• Proven experience in managing large-scale warehousing and transportation operations.
• Strong understanding of inventory management systems and best practices.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., ERP systems, WMS) and MS Office Suite.
• Experience working in challenging or remote environments is highly advantageous.
