Job summary

Central New Mexico Community College seeks an operations leader to supervise custodial, grounds, moving, and recycling activities across CNM campuses. You will mentor staff, allocate work, enforce internal controls, and ensure OSHA and other regulations compliance.

You will develop processes to record operating metrics and lead ongoing improvements in efficiency and safety, while managing budgets and contracts to meet CNM standards.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience.
  • Eight (8) years of direct experience in the custodial and/or grounds keeping field as a supervisor or manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership for CNM's custodial, grounds keeping, moving, and recycling operations.
  • Oversees supervision, work allocation, mentoring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensures compliance with college, city, county, state, and federal laws including OSHA.
  • Develops and implements systems to record operations data and improve efficiency.
  • Manages department budget, procurement compliance, and scheduling across campuses.

Education

Associates Degree in a related field
Eight (8) years of direct supervisory/manager experience in custodial/grounds

Under general guidance of the Director of Operation and Maintenance, manages CNM's custodial, grounds keeping, moving, and recycling departments. Responsible for overseeing the supervision and work allocation, mentoring, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution. Responsible for ensuring all facets of the daily operations of the organizational unit, ensuring compliance with the College, city, county, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations including OSHA.

Duties & Responsibilities Provides technical leadership for the integrated physical plant activities and programs of the component, to include custodial services, moving, grounds and recycling. Establishes and maintains appropriate customer services procedures and standards; interfaces with customers and resolves problems and conflicts as necessary. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, mentoring, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Oversees the overall operations of the teams reporting to this position, assigns work activities and responsibilities to appropriate department personnel, reviews and evaluates organizational effectiveness and productivity; identifies and resolves problems and/or issues throughout all of the campuses and sites. Develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records for the operating unit. Evaluates teams reporting to this position; modifies programs to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the unit. Oversees the activities of external and/or internal contract personnel; monitors and inspects work to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards. Oversees all facets of the daily operations of the organizational unit, ensuring compliance with the College, city, county, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations including OSHA. Responsible for ensuring department operates within budget and purchases are in compliance with the NM State Procurement guidelines. Responsible for ensuring employees comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and ensures all time worked is documented. Determines by inspections and/or review of reports and requests, the need for buildings and grounds maintenance and repairs and prioritizes work to be completed. Responsible for providing metrics to Director of Maintenance & Operations on staffing, hiring, overtime, cost control initiatives, recycling efforts, safety incidents, workers' comp incidents, customer complaints, work production, and scheduling. Plans, creates, directs/manages and coordinates CNM's Operations Department work plan. Meets with supervisors and staff to identify and resolve problems. Assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility. Reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures. Works with the department that oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of all capital improvement projects as the content expert for the operations division. Performs other related duties as assigned.
