Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking ambitious candidates for an Operations Management Trainee (OMT) Program, a fast-track 9–12 month rotational leadership initiative designed to develop talent for critical management roles at our hauling locations.

Through three phases, trainees ride along with drivers, learn dispatch, routing, and safety, then lead small teams under a General Manager’s mentorship, with graduation into a frontline leadership role and relocation within the Midwest based on openings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred (any major—Business, Logistics, Communication, Humanities, etc.), OR equivalent life/military experience that proves you know how to work hard and lead others.
• Geographic Flexibility: Must be willing and able to relocate within the Midwest (Wisconsin, Illinois, or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) based on where we have operational openings.

Responsibilities

• Phase 1: Frontline Foundation—ride along with drivers, learn route management, safety protocols, and fleet operations.
• Phase 2: Tactical Core—dive into data, routing software, and customer service to optimize routes and manage labor costs.
• Phase 3: Leadership Transition—shadow GM, supervise small teams, run safety briefings, own KPIs.
• Graduation: assume permanent leadership role with accountability for team, budget, and book of business.
