Job summary

Mid-City Scrap LLC is seeking an Assistant Operations Manager to oversee yard, shredder, and ELV processing, with a hands-on leadership style and focus on safety, production efficiency, and environmental compliance.

This role acts as a bridge between frontline supervisors and the Operations Manager, coordinating priorities, supervising during absences, and ensuring policy execution. The schedule is Monday–Friday 11am–7pm with Saturday on rotation, outdoors in an industrial setting, PPE required.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years in metal recycling, scrap processing, or heavy industrial ops.
• Prior supervisory or lead experience in yard/shredder/ELV processing.
• MA Hoisting license 2a1c.
• Knowledge of ELV depollution, shredder feed prep, and ferrous/non-ferrous separation.
• Commitment to safety and environmental compliance; OSHA familiarity.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and hold teams accountable.
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing day-to-day yard operations, shredding, and material flow.
• Coordinate daily/weekly production priorities with department Leads.
• Monitor throughput, downtime, and material flow to meet targets.
• Supervise operations in Operations Manager's absence.
• Work with EHS and HR to maintain safety culture and policies.
• Participate in safety meetings, audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
• Ensure environmental compliance for ELV processing and depollution.
• Operate heavy equipment for training and operations as needed.
• Motivate the team to ensure safety, production, and compliance.
• Reinforce PPE use and safe work practices.
• Support implementation of continuous improvement and best practices.
