Job summary

Avantor in Rio Rancho, NM is seeking a detail-oriented Materials Handler to support inventory control, shipping, and purchasing functions in a fast-paced lab and production environment.

You will collaborate with site services and use SAP, Citrix, and Avantor inventory systems to fulfill customer requests, manage hazardous materials documentation, and maintain accurate records while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years in material handling, inventory replenishment, or customer service.
  • Microsoft Teams experience.
  • Shipping, inventory, or purchasing knowledge helpful.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs; travel may be required.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Citrix, and Avantor systems a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory management with accurate control and cycle counting.
  • Process requests leading to inventory movement on/off site.
  • Fulfill customer metric reporting and daily customer service functions.
  • Purchase functions including back order reporting and expediting.
  • Coordinate shipping of materials and prepare documentation.
  • Interface with customer contacts and plant management.
  • Use SAP, Citrix, and Avantor systems in daily duties.

Job description

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the supervisor of site services and will work closely with the Avantor’s Lab and Production Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Hourly Rate: $21.60 Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6 am – 3 pm Location: Rio Rancho, NM

What we’re looking for
  • Education: High school diploma or GED is required
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in material handling/inventory replenishment or customer service
  • Collaboration Tool: Microsoft Teams experience
  • Spill containment training, IATA, DOT, IMDG and OSHA Right to Know a plus
  • Cross-referencing and inside sales experience a plus
  • Knowledge of scientific products and services is a plus
  • Conform to all company and customer requirements for background checks, health and safety issues, security clearances
  • Knowledge of Information intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office with proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Solid understanding and experience in either shipping, inventory, or purchasing
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills; displays a professional can do attitude
  • High regard for safety, quality and adherence to protocols, policies and procedures
  • Self-manage and self-motivate; forward-thinking
  • Prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of scientific products and services a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both the customer and internal contacts
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Travel may be required
How you will thrive and create an impact
  • Associate may be responsible for tasks in inventory management (Consumables, chemicals, samples, etc) and accurate inventory control, processing requests leading to inventory movement on and off site, and fulfilling customer metric reporting. Performs inventory management related functions such as monitoring slow moving and dead inventory, conduct cycle counting, yearly physical inventories, and reporting. Provides daily customer service functions and communicates with the customer relative to inventory management.
  • May be required to perform purchasing functions, including but not limited to: back order reporting and expediting, direct factory shipments, 3rd party support, managing quotes, document control, records maintenance, and resolving open invoices or pricing issues. Responsible for all customer service-related functions, including but not limited to: order entry, reporting, maintaining metrics, and cost savings tracking.
  • Performs shipping coordination activities such as shipping customer material, handling routine issues, operating basic warehouse equipment, entering shipping information into the customer computer system, and equipment inspections.
  • Responsible for handling hazardous materials and preparing shipping documentation and packaging requirements.
  • Interfaces directly with customer point of contact, purchasing directors, facility directors, and plant managers.
  • Responsible for managing consigned, non-consigned, customer-owned owned or 3rd party inventory.
  • Utilizes Avantor and customer computer systems (SAP, Citrix, Intranet, Avantor Inventory Management Systems, ChemSW, and customer-specific systems) in fulfillment of job duties.
  • Meets goals and objectives: safety, performance and quality. Creates programs for enhanced service efficiencies.
  • Interfacing with Avantor Sales Force and manufacture representatives. Documents change management. Updating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
