Avantor in Melbourne, FL seeks an Inventory Coordination professional to support lab and production services. You will coordinate daily assignments, manage inventory, and generate reports while aligning with customer needs and safety standards.
The role requires 3+ years in inventory or warehouse operations, ERP experience (SAP/Oracle), and strong Excel skills. This on-site position offers health benefits, PTO, and growth opportunities within Avantor.
In this role, you will report to the supervisor of site services and will work closely with the Avantor’s Lab and Production Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.
Hourly Rate: $24
Shift: Monday - Friday, 10:30 am - 7 pm or 11 am - 7:30 pm, including break
Location: Melbourne, FL
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Associate or bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field preferred
Experience: 3+ years of experience in inventory management, material handling, or warehouse operations and at least 1 year in a coordination or team-support capacity
Collaboration Tool: Microsoft Teams experience
Proficient use of ERP systems (SAP MM, Oracle or equivalent) for inventory transactions, purchasing, and reporting
Experience with barcode scanning, warehouse management systems and handheld devices
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, charts) and Outlook
Understanding of FIFO, FEFO, lot tracking, expiration management and cycle counting
Demonstrated ability to generate operational reports and track KPIs
Preferred: Advanced ERP proficiency including purchase requisition management and report customization
Experience with Lean Six Sigma tools (5S, value stream mapping, workflow analysis)
Knowledge of hazardous materials shipping and receiving regulations
Experience coordinating sourcing and procurement activities for laboratory materials
Familiarity with customer service metrics, SLA reporting and business review presentations
Forklift and powered industrial truck operator certification
Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt
Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support. In this role you will:
Operational Coordination and Task AllocationCoordinate daily work assignments for across bands Associates based on priorities, volumes and deadlines. Balance workloads across team members during peak periods, absences and volume fluctuations. Monitor task completion and address bottlenecks or delays in real time. Streamline operational workflows by identifying redundant steps and proposing process improvements. Contribute directly to inventory tasks alongside the team, maintaining hands-on operational involvement. Coordinate shift handoffs to ensure continuity of operations and pending task visibility. Communicate daily priorities, schedule changes and operational updates to the team.
Sourcing and Material Replenishment CoordinationCoordinate sourcing of consumables, chemicals, solvents, reagents and other materials for customer operations. Monitor stock levels against par levels, reorder points and usage patterns to prevent stockouts. Generate and manage purchase requisitions and reorder recommendations within ERP systems. Coordinate with suppliers on order status, lead times, expediting requests and delivery scheduling. Identify alternative sources or substitute products when primary items are unavailable or backordered. Track open orders and follow up on overdue deliveries to maintain supply continuity.
Critical Material Management and ProcessingOversee the management and processing of critical materials used in laboratory and production environments. Coordinate storage activities ensuring chemical compatibility, segregation and regulatory compliance. Monitor and enforce FIFO, FEFO and lot-based rotation across all material categories. Coordinate disposition of expired, damaged, recalled or non-conforming materials per site procedures. Conduct periodic storage area inspections and coordinate corrective actions for findings.
Data Collection, Documentation and ReportingCollect, document, organize and report operational data including inventory metrics, activity records and service levels. Prepare daily, weekly and monthly operational reports for supervisor and customer stakeholders. Track and report KPIs including inventory accuracy, fill rate, turnaround time and safety metrics. Maintain accurate logs of team activities, issues, resolutions and customer communications. Document process changes, workflow improvements and SOP updates for the coordination area. Support data collection for audits, reviews and customer business review presentations. Ensure all documentation meets Avantor quality standards and customer site requirements.
Inventory Control and Cycle Count CoordinationCoordinate cycle count schedules and assign counting responsibilities across the team. Review cycle count results and coordinate investigation of significant variances. Monitor inventory accuracy trends and recommend adjustments to counting frequency or methodology. Coordinate physical inventory events in collaboration with the customer and supervisor. Ensure cycle count documentation is complete, accurate and filed per audit requirements.
Safety, Compliance and Quality CoordinationCoordinate team compliance with site-specific safety and regulatory requirements. Schedule and track team completion of required safety training, certifications and refresher courses. Coordinate site-specific safety activities including PPE distribution, safety meetings and drill participation. Report safety incidents, near-misses and compliance findings to the supervisor promptly. Coordinate corrective actions resulting from safety audits, inspections or incident investigations. Maintain training records in an organized and audit-ready state.
Customer Communication and Stakeholder EngagementCommunicate with internal teams and customers on operational matters requiring understanding, support and engagement. Serve as the primary day-to-day operational contact for customer laboratory and production staff. Participate in customer operational meetings, providing updates on inventory status, service levels and issues. Coordinate cross-functional communication between Avantor team, customer departments and suppliers. Translate customer requirements into actionable tasks and priorities for the inventory team. Proactively communicate service disruptions, material shortages or process changes to affected stakeholders. Build and maintain positive working relationships that support contract renewal and scope expansion.
Continuous Improvement and Team DevelopmentIdentify workflow inefficiencies and coordinate improvement initiatives using Lean principles. Support onboarding and orientation of new team members by coordinating training schedules and mentors. Share operational knowledge and best practices with team members to build capability. Coordinate cross-training activities to ensure team flexibility and coverage. Document lessons learned from operational issues and incorporate into SOPs and training materials. Participate in site optimization projects and provide coordination perspective on implementation. Coordinate emergency or urgent sourcing requests with supervisor approval.
