Lynker is seeking a Support Scientist for Operational Wave and Storm Surge Modeling Development to accelerate NWS capabilities. The role blends coastal science, software development, and web visualization, with hybrid work 2 days at NCWCP College Park, MD and 3 days remote.

You will implement probabilistic frameworks and interface tools for stakeholders. You will collaborate across agencies, develop and validate model experiments, and contribute to operational transitions while leveraging HPC

Formación

• M.S. in meteorology/oceanography or related field; 5+ years in weather/ocean/ocean science.
• Knowledge of spectral wave models (e.g., WAVEWATCH III) for real-time applications.
• Experience with operational storm surge models (e.g., SLOSH, P-ETSS, P-Surge, SCHISM, ADCIRC).
• Strong background in ensemble modeling and probabilistic output analysis, plus real-time model merging/weighting.
• Understanding of atmospheric forcing (NBM) and deriving secondary fields.
• Experience with HPC (PBS/Slurm) and MPI/OpenMP for parallel processing.
• Proficiency in Fortran 90, C/C++, Python.
• Unix shell scripting and GitHub proficiency.
• Ability to maintain and visualize marine modeling output and web-based products.
