Job summary

South Shore Health System seeks a skilled Surgical Technician to provide technical support to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, and nursing staff. You will assemble and troubleshoot instruments, ensure equipment readiness, and maintain sterile technique throughout cases.

The role emphasizes adherence to safety standards, accurate counts, and collaboration with OR teams to support high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a formal accredited surgical technician training program preferred.
• OR experience preferred.
• BLS - Basic Life Support required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
• Assembles and troubleshoots equipment for procedures.
• Ensures all necessary equipment is in the room prior to the start of a case.
• Operates electro-surgical and diagnostic equipment safely.
• Maintains aseptic technique and sterile fields.
• Counts sponges, needles, and instruments with RN per policy.
• Actively participates in patient positioning under RN/surgeon guidance.
• Serves as a role model for staff and participates in ongoing training.
