Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our operating room team. The ideal candidate will prepare sterile fields, assist surgeons during procedures, and maintain strict infection control and patient safety standards.

Responsibilities include instrument handling, sponging, suctioning, retracting, and posting counts as required. The role requires on-call availability, professionalism, and collaboration with the health care team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• CPR certification required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification to be obtained by exam within 3 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Completely prepares sterile field in a timely manner and maintains it during procedures.
• Assists physician by sponging, suctioning, retracting and cutting suture as instructed.
• Acts as preceptor, sharing knowledge in a supportive/educational manner.
• Maintains on-call availability and responds to emergencies as assigned.
• Ensures safety and regulatory compliance in the operating room environment.
• Verifies instrument and supply readiness per physician preference card.
• Assists with opening sterile supplies and instruments and with cleanup/turnover after cases.
• Collaborates with health care team to maintain efficient, cost-conscious use of supplies.
