Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking an Operating Room Technician to join our NSG-Operating Room team. Under RN supervision, you will deliver safe, age-appropriate care and provide instruments and supplies for surgeries.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes, maintain strict aseptic technique, and support performance improvement initiatives at unit and department levels.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years operating room experience preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certification exam must be taken and passed within 12 months of program completion.
• Current and valid BLS through AHA.
• Effective communication (written and oral), critical thinking, problem solving, detail orientation, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to safety standards, infection control, and equipment handling regulations.
• Takes corrective actions when counts are off; provides equipment per patient needs.
• Performs other assigned duties as required.
• Observes patient status and reports findings to the RN.
• Reviews perioperative plan and updates care plan under RN direction.
• Supply instruments and materials to the surgical team while maintaining aseptic technique.
• Participates in unit-based quality improvement and staff education.
• Communicates with patients and healthcare team; follows escalation policies.
• Performs additional tasks as assigned.
