Job summary

Tufts Medicine in Massachusetts is seeking an entry-level surgical services assistant to support operating room operations and patient care during procedures. Under general supervision, you will handle room turnover, transport patients and supplies, position patients, and ensure sterile technique.

The role requires physical stamina and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced setting. Candidates with a high school diploma and healthcare exposure are preferred; on-call duties and safety compliance

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate's degree preferred.
• Experience in operating room or surgical area is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assist in room turnover; setup specialized OR equipment for next case.
• Transport patients and supplies to and from OR; liaison with CPD.
• Move blood products and specimens to appropriate areas.
• Assist patient transfers from OR to bed under clinical guidance.
• Ensure OR table and positioning devices are secure for procedures.
• Position patients for surgeries; hold extremities as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of procedural areas; keep gas and electrical panels accessible.
• Handle medical gas tanks safely; monitor PSI and alarms.
• Restock fluids and linens; label with expiration dates.
• Return carts and kits to Central Processing; assist decontamination as needed.
• Maintain biohazard sharps containers and waste disposal.
• Adhere to JCAHO, CMS, DPH, and HIPAA regulations.
• Collaborate with team to achieve goals; support process improvements.
• Respond to Vocera; clock in to the correct group at shift start.
• Meet on-call requirements; clock in within 45 minutes when called.
• Know tables, accessories, and equipment; assist care team with specialized items.
• Maintain linen and trash/recycling routines.
