Job summary

Tufts Medicine is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team. Under RN guidance, you will assist the surgeon, prepare instrumentation, maintain the sterile field, and ensure patient safety during procedures.

The role requires a high school diploma, surgical technology training, BLS certification, and certification within 12 months. Prior OR experience is preferred; on-call coverage is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an accredited surgical technology program is expected.
• Certification as Surgical Technician within 12 months of program completion.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist in setup for surgical procedures and update physician preference cards.
• Prepare case carts with instruments and equipment for next-day cases.
• Serve as the scrub person, maintaining aseptic technique and sterile field.
• Assist in medication administration and track sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Apply electrocautery under supervision and adapt to schedule changes.
• Support RN/transport staff in patient transfer and specimen handling.
