Job summary

Atlantic Health System in New Jersey is seeking a dedicated Environmental Services / Patient Care Technician to support the Operating Room and perioperative areas. You will help keep ORs clean and ready for procedures, assist surgical teams, and ensure patient safety and comfort throughout preop, anesthesia, and post-op stages.

You will also handle equipment, supplies, and patient transfers, adhering to infection control policies and hospital safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Cleans Operating Rooms and sets up surgical equipment between cases according to infection prevention guidelines and IFU.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization in OR, PACU, Preop, restricted areas and supply rooms.
• Maintains equipment cleanliness and assists surgical teams with retrieving/returning equipment.
• Aids in transferring patients under direction of surgical/nursing team ensuring safety and proper body mechanics.
• Follows policy on non-regulated and regulated medical waste, specimen, and blood product handling.
• Prepares OR suite using surgical schedule and surgeon preference cards; communicates potential delays.
• Restocks supplies in department areas; reports par level deficits; checks for outdates.
• Maintains safe environment per hospital policies; universal precautions; handles hazardous substances.
• Responds to requests and emergencies; communicates with charge nurse; supports teamwork.
• Maintains patient confidentiality; reports compliance issues.
• Participates in cost containment through efficient use of supplies and resources; performs other duties as needed.
• Supports Nursing personnel in PACU, Preop and Operating Room.
• Greet and accompany patients through preop, surgical and postoperative phases with compassionate care.
• Assist patients with changing into hospital attire; secure belongings; provide snacks before discharge.
• Transport patients to cars; perform environmental rounds and logs (alarms, extinguishers, room pressures, temps, humidities).
• Precepts nursing assistant colleagues; monitor linen and nutrition par levels.
• Shifts vary with surgical schedule; float to MMC Surgical departments as needed.
• Read/write/speak English; use glucometer, urine pregnancy tests, iStat labs; monitor vitals; apply EKG leads; manage patient safety.
