Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a patient porter to prepare patients and the environment for surgery, ensuring a safe and efficient start to the medical team’s day. You will assist with transport, supplies, and preoperative setup, contributing to a positive patient experience.

The role requires stamina and the ability to follow detailed instructions, with a focus on teamwork, safety, and quality of care in a fast-paced operating room setting.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in operating room environment: minimum 1 year.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and read and write English.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assists with physical preparation of patient and physical environment prior to surgery according to the age/needs of the patient/population served; transports and transfers patients as necessary.
• Functions as a porter between departments ensuring required medical supplies, information, specimens, and products are delivered in a timely fashion.
• Ensures safe care to patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of care, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, and accuracy of practice.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
• Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences.
• Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
• Other duties as assigned.
