Job summary

VCU Medical Center in downtown Richmond is the health hub of the community and the only academic medical center in the region. This OR RN Intern position integrates technical skills with nursing theory to support patient care, education, and leadership development under the supervision of RN staff.

The internship begins with 5 eight-hour shifts, then may transition to 4 ten-hour or 5 eight-hour day shifts with occasional rotation for trauma exposure.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited RN nursing program.
• Enrollment in an accredited BSN program within 24 months of date of hire; completion within 60 months.
• BSN from an accredited program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Functions under direction of RN in providing patient care, emotional support, nursing in-services, patient conferences, and rounding with physicians and problem solving.
• Delivers and accurately documents direct, age-specific care according to medical orders and an integrated plan of care.
• Administers prescribed medications, recognizing incompatibilities and interactions; participates in unit leadership activities as assigned.
