Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Staff Nurse in Illinois to provide direct, age‑appropriate nursing care across the patient journey from admission to discharge. You will apply ethical decision‑making, assess needs, collaborate with families, and implement care plans in alignment with standards.

You will engage in discharge planning, educate patients and families, and document care while continually evaluating outcomes and adjusting plans based on evidence and patient responses.

Qualifications

• BSN required and IL RN licensure.
• BLS certification required.
• ADN holders must commit to BSN within three years.
• ER requires ACLS, PALS/ENPC and TNCC within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assess and record patient status at admission or point of care entry.
• Organize health data so it is accurate, complete and accessible.
• Identify problems needing immediate attention and document plans.
• Collaborate with patient/family and health care team to plan care.
• Initiate discharge planning at admission and update as needed.
• Provide patient and family education founded on evidence-based practice.
• Document assessments, interventions and patient responses.
• Communicate with the care team about patient progress and plan of care.
