Job summary

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking a Perioperative Scheduling Clerk to coordinate the flow of patients, providers and OR personnel through the ORs, and to relay messages to physicians and staff. You will book same-day OR cases and work with the OR Charge RN at the Davol OR desk.

Located in Providence, RI, the role requires a high school diploma, strong customer service and communication skills, basic medical terminology, and proficiency with computers and hospital software.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Proficient computer skills and ability to learn department software.
• One to three months of job-related experience.

Responsibilities

• Answers telephone and uses appropriate techniques and proper identification.
• Takes and relays messages for physicians and OR personnel, and provides paging services.
• Reviews the surgery schedule and notifies the nursing unit of patient and surgery time.
• Notifies the physician and medical team of surgery times.
• Dispatches Orderlies to transport the patient to the OR.
• Coordinates assignment of OR cases to rooms and notifies changes.
• Notifies nursing and support departments of schedule changes.
• Contacts physician offices to inform them of assigned surgery times.
• Coordinates patient transport from OR to recovery areas.
• Maintains records and assists in generating activity statistics.
• Orders and stocks paperwork, office supplies, and dietary goods.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
