Job summary
DRW is seeking an experienced OpenStack and virtualization platform engineer to own and improve the infrastructure for a high-performance trading environment. You will automate repetitive tasks, design OpenStack clouds, and troubleshoot complex multi-team problems across compute, storage, and networking.
You will guide architecture, set engineering standards, mentor engineers, and participate in outages and on-call rotations to ensure operational excellence and cost efficiency.
Qualifications
- Expert level proficiency in administration of OpenStack.
- Deep knowledge of networking, storage, Linux, and virtualization fundamentals.
- Proficiency with industry-standard IAC tooling, such as Terraform and Ansible.
- Scripting/coding experience in multiple languages, such as Python, Golang, and Bash.
- Experience maintaining, deploying, and configuring server hardware.
- Experience deploying virtual machines.
- Service-focused attitude.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work across teams and have evidence-based discussions on technical and operational topics.
- Ability to lead by example and cultivate technical excellence and soft skills in team members.
- Experience with VMware ESXi.
- Experience with containerization/Kubernetes.
- Experience administering on-premise infrastructure.
- Experience developing, deploying, and supporting full-stack web applications.
- Experience with multiple programming languages in greenfield development and legacy maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Own and improve infrastructure, processes, and standards for OpenStack-based virtualization platform.
- Automate repetitive manual tasks.
- Design, implement, and manage OpenStack clouds, including deployment, configuration, and maintenance of OpenStack components.
- Diagnose and rectify complex multi-team problems involving OpenStack compute, storage, and networking.
- Provide customer service to platform users and trading desks.
- Coach engineers on best practices.
- Help investigate outages and set high standards for operotional excellence.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a high-intensity trading environment on on-call rotation.
- Guide design and implementation of a new OpenStack-based virtualization platform.
- Guide key architectural decisions, set engineering standards, identify and eliminate risks, ensure cost-efficiency.
