Job summary

State of Montana seeks a Section Supervisor for the Opencut Mining Section within the Mining Bureau. The role ensures compliance with Montana Opencut mining laws and directs program activities, staff, budgets, and policy implementation.

The ideal candidate will have a geology related degree and 3+ years of natural resource leadership experience, with strong communication and strategic planning skills to guide daily operations and long-term goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, geomorphology, environmental science, life science, physical science, reclamation, mining or environmental engineering, or related degree in natural resources with 3+ years of progressive experience.
  • Experience successfully leading people, even if not in formal supervisory roles.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and integrate program activities
  • Manage personnel and develop annual work plans
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for administrative, engineering, scientific, or technical work
  • Monitor budgets, funding, and resource allocation
  • Set priorities and strategies to achieve goals and performance targets
  • Improve efficiency, quality, and customer service across the program
  • Lead by example with a culture of excellence and safety
