Job Description

The University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW) invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. We seek scholars who are committed to advancing knowledge, driving meaningful social impact, and preparing the next generation of leaders in social work.

We welcome candidates with an earned doctorate in social work or a related social or health science discipline who demonstrate:

A strong, externally fundable research agenda with high-impact scholarly potential

A collaborative spirit that advances interdisciplinary research and community-engaged partnerships

We are particularly interested in scholars whose work focuses on:

  • Practice or services research with low-income or underserved individuals and families
  • Health and behavioral health disparities
  • Child welfare, IPV, and trauma work
  • Community-engaged and translational research that bridges research, practice, and policy
  • Advanced clinical, intervention, and/or research methodology

A PhD in social work or similar fields plus an MSW with at least two years of practice experience is required for teaching in the MSW program. Senior candidates (Associate/Full Professor) should demonstrate a record of leadership, sustained extramural funding, and a commitment to mentoring junior faculty and fostering inclusive academic communities.

The hiring range for these positions is $95,000 to $160,000, based on rank.

UMB is a Maryland state university. Applicants are expected to reside in or be able to relocate to the State of Maryland. Consideration may also be given to residents of the District of Columbia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or West Virginia. This residency requirement also applies to those performing telework.
