Job summary

Stony Brook University invites applications for a full-time open rank appointment in Composition at Assistant/Associate/Full Professor to begin August 30, 2027. We seek a composer actively creating work of high artistic caliber with national or international recognition appropriate to their rank.

The successful candidate will teach composition lessons and seminars, and courses in analysis and music theory at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications

• DMA or PhD in Composition or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to teach composition lessons and undergraduate and graduate music theory and analysis courses.
• National or international reputation as a composer, or the demonstrated potential to achieve distinction in the field.
• Administrative experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach composition lessons and seminars and courses in analysis and music theory at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Contribute to related areas such as computer music, performance, and improvisation as appropriate.
• Participate in departmental and university service.
