Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to support a Kubernetes-based platform in highly regulated cloud and on-prem environments. This onsite role at Fort Meade, MD requires a TS/SCI with FSP security clearance and sits on a long-term contract.

The SRE will build and maintain Kubernetes clusters, implement automation, and improve CI/CD pipelines while ensuring compliance and security in regulated settings. 5 days onsite at Fort Meade.

Qualifications

• 6–8 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering or related roles.
• Strong hands-on experience building and supporting Kubernetes clusters in production, especially Rancher.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or similar cloud platforms; GovCloud experience is a plus.
• Strong Linux administration skills including system troubleshooting and performance analysis.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Programming or scripting experience in Python, Go, Ruby, or similar languages.
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
• Exposure to CI/CD tools and GitOps practices such as ArgoCD.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and support Kubernetes clusters across on-premises and AWS environments.
• Monitor platform reliability, availability, and performance via observability and alerting.
• Develop automation tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual work.
• Define and track service reliability metrics (SLIs, SLOs, error budgets).
• Support compliance, security, auditing, and continuous monitoring in regulated environments.
• Contribute to Infrastructure as Code development using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes for scalability and excellence.
• Collaborate with Security, Platform, and Application teams to deliver reliable infrastructure.
