Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to support a Kubernetes-based platform in highly regulated cloud and on‑prem environments. The role is an onsite, long-term contract at Fort Meade, MD, requiring TS/SCI with FSP clearance.

Qualifications

• 6-8 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or related infrastructure roles.
• Strong hands-on Kubernetes experience, particularly with Rancher.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or similar clouds; GovCloud is a plus.
• Linux administration, system troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Programming or scripting in Python, Go, or Ruby.
• Observability and monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana; centralized logging.
• CI/CD tooling and GitOps (ArgoCD) familiarity; security/compliance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and support Kubernetes clusters across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Monitor reliability, availability, and performance with observability and alerting.
• Develop automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
• Define and track SLI/SLOs and error budgets with senior engineers.
• Support compliance, security, auditing, and continuous monitoring in regulated environments.
• Contribute to IaC development using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes for scalability and reliability.
• Collaborate with Security, Platform, and Application teams to resolve issues.
