Job summary

Piper Companies seeks an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to build, operate, and secure a Kubernetes-based platform in a regulated hybrid cloud. The role emphasizes Rancher management, Linux administration, and IaC with Terraform/CloudFormation.

You will advance automation, CI/CD, and observability while adhering to security and compliance requirements in Fort Meade, MD. The ideal candidate has 6–8 years in SRE/DevOps with hands-on production Kubernetes, cloud experience (AWS/Azure), and

Qualifications

• 6-8 years in SRE/DevOps or related roles.
• Hands-on Kubernetes production experience (Rancher).
• Experience with AWS/Azure; GovCloud a plus.
• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting.
• IaC with Terraform/CloudFormation or similar.
• Programming in Python or Go (or Ruby) or similar.
• Experience with observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, logging solutions.
• CI/CD and GitOps (ArgoCD) experience preferred.
• FedRAMP High/DoD IL5 in regulated environments is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Kubernetes clusters across on-prem and AWS.
• Monitor reliability, availability, and performance via observability and alerts.
• Develop automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
• Define and track SLI/SLOs and error budgets with teams.
• Support compliance, security, auditing, and continuous monitoring.
• Contribute to IaC tooling using Terraform/CloudFormation.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes for scale.
• Collaborate with Security, Platform, and App teams to deliver reliable infra.
