Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Co. in Oxnard, CA offers a Supply Chain Intern role in our logistics department.

You will work closely with management, office, quality control, maintenance and hourly staff to ensure proper product rotation and high-quality shipping of strawberries packed in drums and other containers. Responsibilities include container labeling, vehicle inspections, security seals, paperwork accuracy, and safe forklift operations.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a 4-year degree program.
• Must read, write and speak Spanish.
• Available late March through August.
• Able to work weekends, overtime, and night shifts.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Make sure drums and other containers are clean and properly labeled before shipping.
• Conduct vehicle inspections to ensure cleanliness and safety of trucks and railcars.
• Ensure all shipments have documented security seals before accepting/dispatching loads.
• Conduct pallet inspections and reject loads that do not meet specs.
• Ensure shipping paperwork matches handheld scanner results before shipping product.
• Follow Bill of Ladings instructions for each shipment.
• Check incoming raw materials and supplies before receiving slips.
• Ensure ingredients are on the Approved Ingredient List and Kosher labeled.
• Cooperate with management and office on production/shipments and help take inventory.
• Maintain a safe working environment and promote safety in meetings.
• Investigate accidents promptly and document findings.
• Work with HR to promote safety and support meetings.
• Direct shipping and receiving to meet cost targets without compromising quality/safety.
• Coordinate shipping/receiving with floor staff, QC and forklift drivers.
• Validate shipment accuracy before loading onto trucks.
• Suggest scheduling improvements to processing supervisors.
